MR. & MS. MUSCLE BEACH – JULY 4TH, 2007
The July 4th, 2007 Mr. & Ms. Muscle Beach was a huge success with the second largest athlete participation in the history of Muscle Beach. A big thanks to HeadBlade the Host Sponsor. The Overall Women’s winner was Lindi Ince, Overall Men’s Winner as Nate Brock and Overall Figure Winner was Abby Marie Wolf. The Tuff Stuff Posing Award went to Rado Pagac. This is the second time Rado has won that award. The first couples entry into the Muscle Beach Event featured Rado and his partner Dena Anne Weiner. Their posing routine was excellent and it was a challenge for the judges to determine which of Rado’s routines would win.
It was an honor to have Roland Kickinger, representing Weider International, sponsoring the awards for the Overall Bodybuilding and presenting the winners with their trophies. Roland is a highly recognized IFBB Pro with many magazine and film appearances.
In addition, Abbey ’Pudgy’ Stockton was inducted into the Muscle Beach Hall of Fame. Ms. Stockton was a pioneer at Muscle Beach Santa Monica. She passed away at the age of 88 in 2006 but is still recognized as one of the first women experts in physical fitness, weightlifting and exercise.
To thunderous applause, Franco Columbu, Mr. Olympia 1977 and 1981 was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Franco is unique in his accomplishments in multiple aspects of fitness and strength. Holding not only bodybuilding titles but also powerlifting and weightlifting records he truly demonstrates the height of physical fitness. To the amazement of the crowd, Franco demonstrated he still “has it” buy inflating one of those old hot water bottles until it “BLEW UP”. The remains of the water bottle are being carefully guarded for display in the Hall of Fame Museum scheduled for construction at Muscle Beach Venice. The Hall of Fame Awards are sponsored by Iron Man Magazine.
In addition to the HeadBlade booth other notable health and fitness vendors provided education and giveaways to the public. Thanks especially go to Bodybuilding.com, Mind Over Matter Clothing, Xango, Gold’s Gym, House of Pain, BodiPro, One More Rep, City of L.A. Fire Department, and Private Trainers Association.
Governor Schwarzenegger, bike riding with his family, made a brief appearance to overlook the activities. We hope to see him back for the Labor Day, September 3, 2007 Muscle Beach Championship and the opening of the “Walk of Fame” sponsored by Bodybuilding.com.
Thanks to all the athletes and fans who made this a great event.
