You may be familiar with the syndicated TV show “The Doctors.” No, it’s not a soap opera; it’s a group of M.D.s discussing practical solutions to health issues—like fat loss.
Recently the December ’12 Reader’s Digest pulled a few tips from the show—three for getting leaner. That’s something those of us who don’t have a high-speed metabolism can get behind. Here are the doctors’ tricks for shrinking those stubborn fat stores:
1) Sip tea before meals. Getting something warm in your stomach that has very few calories can help buffer your appetite. Also, “a German study found that white tea reduces growth of new fat cells and breaks down fat in existing cells.”
2) Inhale the smell of grapefruit. The grapefruit scent may temporarily raise your metabolism and squash appetite. “Try keeping essential oil in your kitchen or at your desk.”
3) Have eggs for breakfast. “In one study, people who had two eggs for breakfast lost 65 percent more weight than those who ate an equal-calorie bagel.” Having protein for breakfast reduces hunger hormones from surging later in the day.
