You probably know that the stress hormone cortisol can cause your body to chew up muscle for energy.
According to the March/April ’11 Well Being Journal, foods that are high on the glycemic index, those that spike insulin quickly, rapidly increase cortisol.
That means if you eat a high-GI cereal for breakfast, you may be setting yourself up for elevated cortisol all day long.
Worse is having no breakfast: “Any time during the day that one does not eat within five hours of the previous meal or snack, cortisol levels rise.”
