Just a bit of unfinished business before my thoughts turn to the four upcoming shows that’ll be getting the 2010 pro-figure season off to a rousing early start. The New York Pro Figure, which took place on September 19, just five days before Olympia Weekend, may not have gotten the attention it deserved., especially when you consider that the winner of that show, Nicole Wilkins-Lee, became the new Olympia champion.
If I’d thought about it when heard that Wilkins-Lee had taken at jumped into the New Yrk Pro at the last minute, I might have drawn the comparison to Jenn Gates’ last-minute entry in the ’08 Atlantic City Pro, which she won two weeks before her surprise victory at the ’08 Figure Olympia. Then, having made that connection, I’d have correctly predicted that Nicole would follow Jenn into the top spot at the big show.
Heck, I should have known that Nicole would win the Olympia the minute she tossed her lovely physique into the fray in New York. Hindsight is fabulous, is it not?
Of course, I was too busy getting my production chores at IRON MAN tucked away and packing for the big weekend to give it more than a quick mental note: Nicole might do better at the Olympia than the ninth-place finish I predicted for her, I thought. Guess I wasn’t wrong about that.
In her tune-up appearance in New York, Wilkins-Lee earned an easy 15-point victory over ’09 Atlantic City Pro winner Larissa Reis, with Alicia Renee Harris duplicating her third-place finish from the Atlantic City show, which took place the week before the N.Y. Pro this year.
Sherlyn Roy, second the previous week, was fourth, and Bethany Wagner, who was already Olympia qualified in fitness, rounded out the top five.
