IRON MAN scribe David Young sent me some info, and photos, about another David he knows pretty well. David Fisher, the former IFBB standout who has appeared on four IRON MAN Magazine covers, the most recent being the December, 2007 issue.
Young told me about the new Powerhouse Gym Fisher opened in Torrance, California and is impressed. So, I contacted Fisher about his exciting new venture and got the specifics. The facility, located at 22216 Palos Verdes Blvd. (near Redondo Beach), is 4,000 square feet and carries the philosophy "Training the Way it Used to Be", according to the 1990 NPC Tournament of Champions Overall winner. By the way, David, I remember that one well; I got to call out your name as the winner from the podium. Man, has it been 20 years?
"The gym is not big, but it has everything you need to lift", says Fisher. "We have dozens of pieces of cardio, benches, leg equipment, smith machine, squat platform, deadlift and an Olympic lifting platform. There’s also lots of dumbbells and benches, pec dec and good music, a pro shop with supplements, gear and clothing, a lounge area with a 52" flat screen and couches where we play the Mr. Olympia tapes, or the big sporting event, if its on."
Owning a gym has always been a dream for the former Canadian physique star. Fisher had a Nutri-Sport store for six years in San Bernadino, CA before selling in 2002 and moving to Torrance.
Sounds like a sublime facility, Dave. Will have to get out there in the near future and take in a workout. How can I resist, with a Cheesecake Factory only minutes away.
