I got home about midnight Sunday night from Las Vegas and the Olympia weekend. While the weekend was a blast, I had some things to do before getting to bed at 1am and getting up at 5am to make it to the gym in time for my first Monday client. It was back to the real world in a hurry with a super busy schedule on Monday! I had intended to post a blog last night, but after getting home and having dinner, I just couldn’t keep my eyes open and had to hit the bed early.
I need to thank Ironman publisher, John Balik, for having me out to Vegas to work in the Ironman booth! The Ironman staff is really a wonderful bunch of people and it’s always such a pleasure to get to spend some time with them. It was great fun getting to work in the booth with Fern Assard and getting to meet so many of the Ironman readers. Start making your plans now to attend the IFBB Ironman Pro and the Fit Expo in LA, Feb. 15-17, 2008.
This was my first time to attend the Olympia and I must say that it’s quite a spectacle! There were so many stunningly beautiful, fit women running around in smokin’ hot outfits! (the the woman I’m pictured with above, Lea Newman) That was so awesome to see. Then there is also the “freak show”. I love the sport of bodybuilding, but I have to say that I don’t like what the proliferation of bodybuilding drugs has done to people…..or maybe I should say what some of the men and women in bodybuilding have done to themselves with the drugs. Of course, I would love to be much bigger than I am. And, I appreciate that these people still have to train brutally hard. But to me, the results of the rampant drug use are hideous! I saw women who just looked like huge, muscular men in drag. I saw men who looked like caricatures…..lean and muscular, yet with bellies that protruded beyond their huge pecs! While I’m not so naive as to think they were totally clean, but what happened to physiques like Frank Zane and Lee Labrada? Nevertheless, the Olympia weekend was a lot of fun and I hope to get to go back next year!
Yesterday I decided it was time to start putting some muscle back on my injured leg. I have about 10 more days before I get released by my doctor (presumably). But, it’s feeling considerably better so I pushed it a bit. Today it’s kinda sore, but that was to be expected.
