I spoke with Jay Cutler yesterday, and the newly crowned Mr. Olympia said he’ll be near 300 pounds when he guest poses at my Junior Cal this Saturday at Pasadena City College. Rumor has it that 5’2″, 160-pound Derik Farnsworth, who took on Gunter Schlierkamp at last year’s contest, will be back to challenge Cutler this time around. No truth to the rumor that Ron (Yogi) Avidan, tipping the scales at a svelte 6’2″, 250, will be joining in on the posedown.
Also talked to Shawn Ray; he’ll be at the finals and will be joining a slew of us at the Cheesecake Factory in Old Town after the show. If you know Shawn the way I know Shawn, I will be picking up the tab. And no, he won’t be taking off his shirt. Me neither.
Four days out, I have a record 70 entry forms in hand; looks like the event might draw 80-90 after the same-day sign-ups take place Saturday morning. People are still calling for tickets; at this point you need to buy them at the door. Sexson Auditorium holds 2,000, so there will be an abundance of great seats available. First come, first serve.
IRON MAN Magazine Publisher John Balik, who is donating a free one-year subscription to all the class winners, said he’ll be doing his darnest to make it to the show this year, and the usual large list of industry stars will be in the house. Jaguar Jon Lindsay, my State Chairman and promoter deluxe, will be in Pasadena as well, relaxing a bit before his next two meg shows, the Los Angeles July 21 and the USA July 28.
We’re getting near game day. Best of luck to all the competitors, and to all of the sponsors for their continued support. Oh yeah, just seeing Timea Majorova at the Bodybuilding.com booth (my title sponsor yet again) is worth the price of admission!
