A study reported in the British Journal of Nutrition determined that milk hydrates a body good—even better than water. Subjects depleted almost 2 percent of their bodyweight via fluid loss on stationary bikes and then drank skim milk, water or Powerade. The researchers found that those who got milk retained almost 70 percent of the fluid, while those who got water and Powerade showed about 35 percent retention. The balance of specific minerals in milk may be the reason it doesn’t go right through the body like water.
